Dj Lotuspetal’s first recollection of DJing was using two tapes to mix Herbie Hancock's Watermelon Man with MC Lyte I'm not having itî at about 10 years old. It was only natural that by the age of 14 she frequented house and hip-hop clubs such as Mars in NY, Paradox, in B-more, and Traxx in Washington, D.C. Her childhood nomadic ways exposed her to a diverse array of genres from soul, to alternative, to salsa. Over the years, Lotuspetal would find herself digging for records in thrift stores, flea markets and records stores, no matter what part of the world she was in. In 2003, her day job as a College Professor would lead her to the Girl’s Dj Collective in Philadelphia, PA. GirlÍs Dj is an educational group designed to empower women and girls to reach for what they want, especially in the realm of music and djing. Over the past few years, she has left her bedroom DJ status behind to slowly infiltrate the Los Angeles house and reggae music scene. Currently, Lotuspetal hosts a slow jams Internet radio show, on Sutra. You can also check her out on her socially conscious driven podcast…RECESS radio or check her out on MySpace.
